Ed Sawyer • Builder
Hunter Anderson Properties and Construction
Richmond, VA, builder Ed Sawyer is known for his unique and smart design solutions for home and business. His craftsmanship and creativity have helped shape neighborhoods in the Richmond area for more than 25 years. Most importantly to Ed, he has helped countless families improve their lives through thoughtful interpretation of the spaces where they live and work. Family is central to the mission of Ed’s company, Hunter Anderson Properties and Construction, named for his two sons, who are named for great greats on the family tree.
Although that tree is firmly rooted in Richmond, Ed draws inspiration from around the world. Trips to far away places with his wife, Whitney, color Ed’s designs with a globally informed aesthetic. From travels to Italy, Ireland, England, Spain and most recently, Peru, where he tackled the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, Ed brings home both the exotic and the practical, collecting from artistic expression in architecture as well as from innovative structural concepts. Front entrances and doors in New York, San Francisco, England and Ireland recently caught Ed’s eye, filling his mind (and iPhone) with their rustic elegance. From old-world to modern, such influences help Ed deliver truly unique details to his clients in Richmond.
And there’s no place Ed would rather be than back home, on site with his client and crew, turning ideas into drawings and drawings into rooms, homes, offices, and, yes, entryways. Ed is on the job daily and has been since his earliest construction days working as a carpenter’s helper while a student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Ed graduated from VCU with a degree in finance but has always been busy building. It’s what he loves.
A collector of tools by the age of 10, a builder of fences by the age of 14, and always a dreamer of the next project, Ed looks forward to 25 more years of shaping and building homes, businesses and neighborhoods in Richmond, VA.
